Regular readers will remember I wrote recently about the
city of Huntington Beach having a pissing contest with CA Governor Gavin
(God I Want To Be President) Newsom and A. G. Rob Bonta over election
rules.
The city of
Huntington Beach passed an ordnance requiring voter I.D. This was a
change to the city charter. The state was offended by that and passed a
state law PROHIBITING voter I.D. for any reason. The problem is that
Huntington Beach is a charter city, as opposed to a general law city.
They play by different rules.
Friday
Orange County Superior Court Judge Nico Dourbetas ruled that the state
action is in fact NOT binding on the city of Huntington Beach. If the
state wants to make that change it will have to be thru a constitutional
amendment, not a legislative action.
It is extremely likely the state will appeal.
