U.N. HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ACCUSES ISRAEL OF WAR CRIMES AND BLASTS U.S. FOR IRON DOME

While also criticizing Hamas for violating the rules of war, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay was particularly harsh towards Israel, accusing the Jewish state of committing War Crimes for targeting civilians in Gaza. And to top it off, she took a swipe at the U.S. for helping Israel develop its Iron Dome missile defense system.

Speaking in Geneva, Pillay said Hamas is violating international humanitarian law by storing rockets in schools and hospitals and by firing them from “deeply populated” areas. But she saved her best shots for Israel and the U.S.

Pillay accused Israel of defying international law by attacking schools, hospitals, homes and U.N. facilities in Gaza. “None of this appears to be accidental,” she said. “They appear to be defying, deliberate defiance of obligations that international law imposes on Israel.” In other words, Israel is guilty of committing war crimes.

When it comes to the firing of rockets, Pillay only criticizes Hamas for firing them from “deeply populated” areas, not for firing them at Israeli civilians. Apparently the High Commissioner for Human Rights believes the launching of thousands of rockets aimed at Israel’s civilian population does not violate the human rights of Israelis.

Pillay also condemned the U.S. for providing financial support to Israel for its Iron Dome missile defense system. “No such protection has been provided to Gazans against the shelling,” she said.

The U.N. has been hostile toward Israel ever since the 1967 Six-Day War when the Jewish state defeated the invading Arab armies of Egypt, Jordan and Syria. Pillay is just one more voice of many in the U.N. that have condemned every move Israel has made in its conflict with the Palestinians.

Pillay’s attack on the U.S. for its role in the development of Iron Dome is the height of absurdity. If it were not for Iron Dome, Israel would have suffered thousands of civilian casualties. Hamas started this war. Israel is merely defending itself from thousands of rockets fired at its civilians from Gaza. It is only due to Hamas and Islamic Jihad’s aggression that Gaza is being attacked.

The Iron Dome is as close to a 100% defensive weapon as exists in the world today. The idea that deploying it somehow is a violation of somebody's rights is idiotic.
