FORMER MAYOR MAY BE IN MORE TROUBLE

by Bob Walsh

Regular readers will remember the name Anthony Silva. He was the Mayor of Stockton, CA. He got the gig in large part because Oprah really liked him and gave him some bucks and some major publicity. His term just ended and he has taken an out-of-country location.

On Thursday the FBI and the DA executed search warrants on Thursday for his home and the Stockton Kid's Club, a charity that Silva operated. Shortly after his computers and other records were snaffled up, the DA issued a felony arrest warrant for Silva. It seems that this is regards to alleged financial dealings and has nothing to do with his earlier issues at a summer camp for kids Silva operated in the foothills. The criminal charges related to that have been either dropped or reduced to misdemeanors. They mostly concerned making unauthorized audio recordings of a strip poker game which involved both alcohol and (allegedly) at least one minor.

When he left, a couple of days ahead of the service of the warrants, he posted the following on Facebook. "Apparently Stockton can manage without me for a while so I decided to go explore the world. I am leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again." He is apparently in Columbia right now. He is being encouraged to return voluntarily to the U.S. to answer the charges.

I am fully confident he will be right back. Or not.

What an idiot. The U.S. has an extradition agreement with Columbia. He needs to go to Brazile. They will only charge him a small fee to live there.
