Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nury Martinez praised a State Assembly bill passed Thursday that could result in pimps and johns having their vehicles impounded as part of a pilot program to crack down on prostitution.

AB 1206 was approved with a 60-1 vote by the Assembly and would create a 24-month pilot program in Los Angeles.

The bill was introduced by Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra, who represents the 39th Assembly District in the northeastern San Fernando Valley, which includes Lankershim Boulevard in the Sun Valley and North Hollywood area, a longtime focal point for street prostitution.

Martinez also represents the northeast San Fernando Valley.

“For years I’ve looked for a partner in Sacramento to help push this bill, and finally found one with the leadership of Assemblymember Bocanegra,” Martinez said.

“When a john comes to my district, make no mistake about it, he is using his vehicle to engage in sexual violence against women and girls. Johns toss used condoms, drug paraphernalia, beer bottles, and other junk on our neighborhood streets where kids have to walk over them to get to school. When we arrest these johns, their vehicles shouldn’t remain behind. We must keep our streets safe from these predators and the vehicles they use to execute their crimes.”

In 2016, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Bureau Human Trafficking Task Force made more than 500 arrests, issued more than 3,000 citations, and rescued at least 10 human trafficking victims, eight of whom were minors.

“Human trafficking is a problem in Los Angeles where vehicles play a key role,” Bocanegra said previously when the bill was passed by a committee. “AB 1206 creates a zero tolerance policy for soliciting prostitution, and anyone using their car will have their vehicle towed.”

Big fucking deal. They are going to just tow the vehicle not seize it. What a waste of time. The towing companies will love it and the cities and state will probably get a fee on each tow. This bill is about revenue. Legalize prostitution.

There is an illegal whore house in downtown Reno, Nevada. It is a multi story hotel with a huge topless bar downstairs. It used to be a casino. You check in a room and then arrange a for a visit in the topless bar. It's been busted a couple of times but the only person arrested is the prostitute who is a private contractor dancing topless for the bar. A misdemeanor with a $200 fine. The girls average over $1000 a night. Most of the time they only get a summons.
