CA Senator Alex Padilla is the ranking member of the U S
Senate Judiciary Immigration Subcommittee. He LOVES immigrants. He
doesn't care if they are legal or illegal, he just loves them and wants
them all to be citizens and wants them all to be able to vote, as long
as they vote Democrat.
He
has just introduced a bill, cleverly named RENEWING IMMIGRATION
PROVISIONS OF THE IMMIGRATION ACT OF 1929. This would "update" section
249 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. This would allow an
(illegal) immigrant to apply for legal permanent resident status if they
have been in the U. S. continuously for seven years, have no criminal
record (presumably other than being here illegally and staying here
illegally) and meet all other requirements to receive a green card.
It
is not yet completely clear what "no criminal record" means to Alex
Padilla. He of course describes his proposal as "long overdue."
EDITOR'S NOTE: I don't have a problem with Padilla's proposal. I also think that an illegal immigrant who has bee in this country for seven years should be able to apply for US citizenship if he/she has obeyed all laws other than a traffic offense.

He MUST be ashamed of it (or at least embarrassed by it) or it would carry a real title instead of a misleading one. If it is such a wonderful idea (and I admit it has merit and should be discussed at a mater of public policy) why can't they just name it something the isn't a weasel.
