According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the Republican plan for slashing Medicare would double the out-of-pocket costs of seniors to more than $12,510 a year. The total cost of insurance would be even higher.
That would be the kiss of death for many seniors.
UPDATE 4-13-11: We wouldn’t be facing this calamity if it weren’t that Obama’s new Health Care law relies on Medicare funds to pay for a new entitlement providing insurance for people under 65. Sen. Jim Risch of Idaho said, “We are talking about a half-trillion dollars that is being stolen from Medicare.”
First Congress robs the Social Security Trust Fund to pay for other government programs and now the Obama administration robs Medicare to provide uninsured people under 65 with insurance.
I don’t think this is the change Obama’s elderly supporters were hoping for.
