AN ERA PASSING FROM LIVING MEMORY

By bob Walsh

The last known survivor of the great San Francisco Earthquake died Monday in Marin County, CA. William DelMonte was eleven days shy of his 110th birthday when he passed. That of course made him an infant during the 06 quake so the phrase “living memory” may be a bit of a stretch, but it is noteworthy never the less.

His family fled the fires that destroyed the city in a horse-drawn buckboard and settled temporarily in Alameda County, but came back to reopen their restaurant.
