SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T LIKE GUNS

by Bob Walsh

I lived for many years in the East Bay Area in California. For about fifty years there has been a very nice set of firing ranges off of Redwood Road in the East Bay Regional Parks District facility. A couple of them are open to the general public, some of them are used by police and private firearms trainers. It is a very nice facility. It is close enough to serve a major metropolitan area but far enough out in the boonies to not be a problem. Until recently.

The liberal asswipes in the area are doing everything they can to get the ranges closed down. They are claiming noise pollution. They are claiming environmental damage. Most of them just plain hate guns, hate people who own and use guns, hate the fact that guns exist in the world and go out of their way to do anything they can to stand in the way of honest, law-abiding gun owners.

A decision will be made very soon on the Chabot Gun Club’s lease. It has been extended short-term a couple of times and now a more or less final decision will be made by March 31 (or shortly thereafter) on whether or not this 65-acre facility will be driven out of business.

The gun haters have managed to gather 4,000 signatures on an on-line petition. Most of the signatures I expect come from people who have never even seen the range let alone live or work near it. Both the Sierra Club and the Audubon Society are trying to get it shut down.

Of course, if you live in Oakland, you can just do your range practice on the streets. Nobody will notice or pay attention. Other than that the range serves a useful purpose to the law-abiding gun owning public. I hope they manage to hang in there.
