Marijuana advocates were expecting their recreational drug of choice to be removed from Schedule 1
The DEA administrator announced Thursday that marijuana would remain in Schedule 1 alongside heroin, thus keeping it illegal for any purpose, including its medical use.
A Schedule 1 drug is one that has “no accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.”
Marijuana advocates had been expecting the Obama administration to remove their recreational drug of choice from Schedule 1 and are now mad as hell.
As for medical marijuana, the DEA said a Health and Human Services evaluation shows marijuana has no ‘‘currently accepted medical use’’ because “the drug’s chemistry is not known and reproducible; there are no adequate safety studies; there are no adequate and well-controlled studies proving efficacy; the drug is not accepted by qualified experts; and the scientific evidence is not widely available.”
“There is no evidence that there is a consensus among qualified experts that marijuana is safe and effective for use in treating a specific, recognized disorder.”
The DEA decided to keep Marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug because it has a "high potential" for abuse and can result in psychological dependence.
At the same time the DEA said it will allow more Marijuana to be grown for scientific research.
Now if the Justice Department would just do its job and enforce the federal laws that make it illegal to possess, manufacture or distribute marijuana, but that is not going to happen under the Obama administration. And it’s not going to happen under a Hillary Clinton administration either.

We can't have all those DEA agents added to the already massive unemployment lines, can we?
