An as-yet unidentified man entered the Seminary Market (Liquor Store) at 2611 Seminary Ave in Oakland (CA) about 9 p.m. on Tuesday. He was armed with a toad sticker and started throwing things around the store and setting the debris on fire. After the other occupants of the building fled he barricaded himself inside. The building was heavily damaged. The arsonist died.
I remember some years ago when the local Black Muslims were trashing liquor stores in Oakland. Depending on who you ask they were either attempting to enforce a prohibition against consumption of liquor against the infidels or demolishing stores that refused to pay protection. This probably wasn’t that. I suspect there are some serious mental health issues or substance abuse involved.
