Brazilian authorities say Lochte and his three fellow Olympic swimmers lied about getting robbed at gunpoint
Rio police say that Ryan Lochte and his three fellow Olympic swimmers concocted up the story about being robbed at gunpoint to cover up that they got drunk partying the night away and then vandalized a gas station restroom. They broke down the restroom door and police found damage to a soap dispenser and a mirror.
What really happened, as verified by surveillance camera footage, is that they got caught by the station’s security guard. Because they were belligerent, the guard drew his gun. They were released when they paid $50 for the damage they caused.
The Brazilian authorities are demanding that Lochte and his buddies apologize to the people of Rio de Janeiro for fabricating a story that gave their city a bad name. But Mario Andrada, a spokesman for the Rio Olympics organizing committee, said:
“No apologies from [Lochte] or the other athletes are needed. These kids were trying to have fun. They came here, they represented their country…They competed under gigantic pressure.”
Kids? Ryan Lochte is 32-years-old! Apparently the Olympics organizing committee believes breaking a restroom door, soap dispenser and mirror is just a way of having fun and letting off steam from the pressure of Olympic competition. In the U.S. their drunken asses would have been thrown in the slammer for this.
Lochte's attorney insists Ryan did not lie because having him pay $50 before releasing him constituted a robbery. Right, and pigs can fly.
Ryan takes home another gold medal from Rio, but this one is not for swimming, rather it is a well-deserved one for lying.

This is almost certainly not the first time a well-known jock got drunk and stupid and then lied about it. It won't be the last either, however if may be the most expensive. The real money in being a jock is, for the most part, product endorsements. If you are a known drunken lying asshole it cuts into your marketability. Had they just paid up, apologized for being drunk and stupid and gone about their business probably nobody would have found out and if they did they wouldn't care. Telling a stupid and embellished lie is much, much worse than the original offense.
