While listening to the noon news today I picked up a very interesting piece of information about a very cleaver (sneaky?) bit of left-wing censorship on behalf of the UC system.
It seems that the university regularly imposes a "special additional security fee" when conservative groups want to have a conservative speaker on campus. Notice of the special fee is always given as close to the deadline as possible and is in excess of $5,000. Most conservative groups on the UC system are fairly small and internally self-funded so coming up with the money on short notice is often problematic and often results in the speaker being cancelled.
However even paying the fee is not a guarantee of any actual security. At both UC Davis and UC Berkeley, within the last ten days, the university has been unable or unwilling to provide adequate security, ending with the speaker being cancelled due to safety concerns.
Pretty slick move, isn't it?
