CARDINAL, FINANCIAL ADVISOR TO THE POPE, TO FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES

by Bob Walsh

Cardinal George Pell, of Australia, 76, now the Pope's principle financial advisor, is being held to answer sex abuse charges in his home country. He was due to appear in court in Victoria to set a trial date.

He has been charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse stemming from his time as a local priest in his home town of Ballarat, where he worked from the 1970s thru the 1990s.

A judge did dismiss about half the charges pending against him, citing lack of evidence. The only public statement Pell has ever made on the accusations was his plea, NOT GUILTY.
