A pedophile who was under suspicion in the infamous 1996 murder of JonBenet Ramsey has allegedly "confessed" to the murder in a series of letters written to a former high school friend.
Gary Oliva, 54, is currently doing ten years as a guest of the people in Colorado for possession of child porn. He is up for parole in 2020.
In a series of letters and phone calls to Michael Vail, Oliva stated he accidentally killed the little girl. The first contact was on December 26, 1996 and was a sobbing hone call. Vail, who is a resident of Ventura, CA allegedly made multiple phone calls to the Boulder police department, the first one on December 27 1996 when the story hit the papers. They never got back to him, and switched his future phone calls to an answering machine for tips. None of those messages was ever returned.
When Oliva was arrested in 2020 on an unrelated charge he had a photo of JonBenet, a poem written to her, and a stun gun. It is believed that Oliva had an obsession with the little girl.

This case wasn't Boulder PD or the DA's office shining moment. I never cared for child beauty contests either.
I agree those child beauty contests are very creepy.
