AMAZON AND FED-EX BREAKING UP

by Bob Walsh

Federal Express has announced that they are not renewing their current contract as principle delivery system for the U. S. domestic market for Amazon. They want to refocus their business on other customer streams, or so they say.

I kind of wonder if Amazon wanted to cut them to the bone and FedEx said HELL NO. I do know there is a major push within Amazon to get rid of their internal employee delivery people and shift to contractors. It is at the point they are making very agreeable arrangements for people to buy suitable vehicles and insurance so they can act as independent contractors delivering Amazon packages without being actual employees.

Brick and mortar retail was getting very tight. Maybe now e-commerce is starting to feel the squeeze too.

If you like to drive, have decent retirement medical insurance anyway and don't mind being treated like a serf it might be an appealing retirement gig.

Amazon has been recruiting for owner operators. It is tough work. I believe the people that will make $ will own several vehicles and employ drivers on a small scale with assigned territories.
