CA ROADKILL LAW IN LIMBO

by Bob Walsh

Regular readers of my crystal prose will recall I mentioned that as of 01-01-2020 it will be legal to keep and eat roadkill in the formerly great state of California. Well, that is still sort-of true but it is also still mostly false.

The problem is that the law requires that officials of the Department of Fish and Wildlife develop rules and procedures for implementation. They haven't got around to it yet. So, if you nail Bambi with your Buick and decide to toss him into the trunk and take him home, you could be in serious legal trouble.

DFW promises they will get around to making and issuing the new rules sometime before mammals become extinct.

This could be your defense if you are busted for that alligator jerky Bob. Tell them you hit it with your car out on the roadway.

In CA that is not completely unrealistic. And I do have a food dehyrdator.
