A particularly moronic state assemblyman in the formerly great state of California wants to make voting mandatory in California, with punishment similar to that of refusing to show up for jury duty. I didn't catch his name on the news blurb but he was from the bay area so he is a left-leaning liberal democrat.
EDITOR'S NOTE: There are several countries that have mandatory voting. Eligible voters who do not cast a ballot are fined.

They do not have constitutions that protect free speech like ours does. Presumably that also includes the freedom to NOT speak (vote). I think Australia has mandatory voting and (assuming my recollection is correct) it seems to work for them.
Personally I don't want uninformed clods who don't give a damn to vote.
