MORE CORONA VIRUS PANIC ?

Or Smart Precautions?

by Bob Walsh

For the first time in about 50 years the U. S. has barred foreigners from entering the country due to fear of a bug. El Presidente Trump has signed an emergency order declaring a public health emergency that bars most foreigners from China effective today.

U. S. citizens, immediate families of U. S. citizens, and permanent resident aliens can still come in but are subject to a 14 day quarantine.

Unfortunately the testing program for Corona Virus is far from exact. The 14 day period is needed to get a solid reading on whether or not a person has the bug.

The world-wide numbers are over 200 known dead and about 10,000 known to be infected. This is a drop in the bucket compared to the yearly flu numbers, but since this is new and is a cross-species transmitted bug it is more scary, and may be harder to deal with. The pros just don't know for sure what to expect.

You say panic. We say reasonable precautions.

That's the problem with hindsight. If you under-react and everything turns out cool, you made a smart decision. If you under-react and the situation turns to shit, you screwed the pooch and got people killed. And you don't know FOR SURE until the dust settles.

The plague depopulated Europe by 40% or so. The penalty for guessing wrong is severe.
