Two
former CHP officers and a Modesto area criminal defense attorney are
suing Stanislaus county and several named individuals, alleging
violation of their civil rights via a malicious prosecution.
All were charged in a murder-for-hire case that went on for years and years and years.
Back in 2015 a total of eight people were arrested and charged in the murder Korey Kaufman, 26, alleged
to have occurred in 2012. It was further alleged that former CHP
officers Eduardo Quintanar, Walter Wells and Scott McFarland as well as
defense attorney Frank Carson and various family members conspired to
help cover up the murder, passed along confidential information relating
to the investigation, etc.
In
the end the murder case was carried forward only against Carson and
brothers Baljit and Daljit Atwal. All were found not guilty.
The
federal lawsuits filed this week assert that investigators intimidated
witnesses and variously manufactured and destroyed evidence. Among the
evidence allegedly destroyed was game trail camera footage showing two
people who were never charged in the case.

Looks like they waited for the end of the 2 year limit to file. Smart.
