WHY A REALLY GOOD SECURITY HOLSTER IS IMPORTANT

by Bob Walsh

Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana, is a psych hospital.  Early Tuesday one of the patients attacked and started beating the crap out of a nurse.  At the time there were two armed retired cops working security there.  They responded to the scene separately.  The patient managed to wrestle the pistol out of the first officers holster and shot him.  The bullet went thru his arm and into his chest killing him.  The second responding officer shot the patient to death.

I remember a tragic police death here in Stockton some years ago.  A brand new Sergeant, riding solo on first watch, interacted with a wandering thug in the middle of the night.  The Sergeant was beaten to death by the thug.  Even though the cop was dead, the thug did not manage to remove the pistol from the security holster and fled without it.

A good security holster is not cheap and requires some additional training, but it can be a very valuable investment.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The cop was beaten to death by an unarmed man.

One good punch can stun you or even knock you out. From there it is all downhill if that is what the bad guy wants.

Security holsters take a lot of practice. I've seen police officers at the range fumble with the security holsters on timed events. I didn't carry one. Now I don't carry a visible firearm.

After he knocked the cop down or out he was armed, with the cops baton.

The Stockton sergeant was Tim White. A great man and a damn good, rock solid cop. Worked with him for years before he made sergeant. The world was a better place with him in it.
