Security forces at the scene of Wednesday's terrorist stabbing in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah
A 14-year-old Palestinian Arab girl stabbed and wounded an Israeli Jewish mother (26) while she was walking with her young children near the disputed Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah on Wednesday morning.
The victim is reportedly a resident of Sheikh Jarrah, which sits just on the eastern side of the seam line that divided Jerusalem up until the Six Day War in 1967. Palestinians reject the notion of Jews living in what they claim as “Arab” neighborhoods, even though many of the properties are Jewish-owned going back to the period of the British Mandate and before.
The attacker is also reportedly a resident of Sheikh Jarrah. According to police officials, the young terrorist waited until the Jewish mother had walked past and then stabbed her in the back before fleeing the scene.
Following a brief manhunt, the Palestinian girl was found hiding in a nearby school and was arrested.
The victim was taken to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital with the knife still stuck in her back. Doctors later said she was in stable condition and had suffered light injuries.
