The Biden administration's experiment with woke
initiatives promoting diversity and equity is undermining the
warfighting ability of the U.S. armed forces, according to a new report
by Republican lawmakers.
It accuses the military's political leaders of trying to indoctrinate the next generation of commanders with left-wing ideas.
'Our military’s singular purpose is to "provide for the common defense" of our nation,' says the report authored by Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Chip Roy.
'It cannot be turned into a left-wing social experiment. It cannot be used as a cudgel against America itself.
'And it cannot be paralyzed by fear of offending the sensibilities of Ivy League faculty lounges or progressive pundits.
'The world is a dangerous place, and the Biden Administration's insanity is eroding our greatest source of security in it.'
The new report accuses the Biden
administration of undermining U.S. warfighting abilities by promoting
elements of critical race theory, and introducing diversity initiatives
The authors of the report are Republican Rep. Chip Roy (top) and Sen. Marco Rubio
Their
report describes how the armed forces have devoted resources to
tackling extremism in the ranks, training personnel in the use of
pronouns, and allowing service members to transition gender - when the
list of disqualifying medical conditions for includes the use of
Invisalign braces.
But it reserves particular ire for
anti-racism programs which the authors say are irrelevant in an outfit
which already acts as an egalitarian institution, where the only thing
that matters is the ability to fight alongside comrades.
It says the dependence on critical race theory has promoted anti-white views and lists examples.
'An
admiral told midshipmen at the Naval Academy that they need to read
"How to Be an Antiracist" – a book that teaches that "the only remedy to
past discrimination is present discrimination," that capitalism is
racist, and that people by virtue of their race are inherently
oppressive or privileged while others are inherently victimized or
oppressed,' the authors write.
Rubio said the initiatives were all a distraction from the main aim of the armed forces.
'Rather than making the case for American
greatness and protecting our nation, the military is parroting woke
nonsense,' he told Fox News Digital.
'It’s
dumb, it doesn’t work, and it's dangerous. We need to spend more time
thinking about how to counter Chinese aircraft carriers and less time
thinking about pronouns.'
The report goes on to describe teaching materials used at the West Point military academy.
'A
slide for a class at West Point obtained by Freedom of Information
requests argues that "white people and people of color live racially
different structured lives,'" the report says.
'The
slide goes on to list three characteristics of whiteness, describing it
as "a location of structural advantage [and] race privilege," "a
standpoint or place from which white people look at themselves and the
rest of society," and "a set of cultural practices that are usually
unmarked and unnamed."'
The Pentagon
has repeatedly pushed back against such criticism, saying it does not
teach critical race theory - more usually understood as an academic
framework for analyzing how history has been shaped by notions of race -
and that it seeks to eliminate extremism among recruits.
