Bombs exploded next to two bus stops at two different entrances to Jerusalem early Wednesday morning, killing at least one person and wounding another 22, several of whom were listed in serious-to-critical condition.

The first blast occurred on the edge of the Givat Shaul neighborhood along the main Highway 1 entrance to Jerusalem. Twelve people were wounded in the explosion, four seriously. One later died during emergency treatment at a nearby hospital.

The second explosion happened less than 30 minutes later along the highway leading into the city through the Ramot neighborhood. Three people were wounded there, all lightly, and another four were treated for shock.

Police believe the bombs were left in unattended bags at each bus stop.

Israel has not experienced terrorist bombings of this type for some time, though the past year has seen 29 Israelis killed in a wave of Palestinian terror shootings, stabbings and car ramming attacks.

Wednesday’s bus stop bombings is likely to lead to an expansion of Israel’s months-long crackdown on Palestinian terror.
