The Fast Food Council, brought
into being by the legislature and governor of the formerly great state
of California, is now being stalled by the people of the state of
California.
The council was
created and granted the power to set wages, hours, terms and conditions
of employment for the vast majority of fast food workers in
California. However, a signature drive has managed to put the matter
before the voters in the 2024 election. Under law the new law must be
placed on hold until the voters get their say.
I
HOPE the voters will be smart enough to figure out that fast food work
is not, generally speaking, intended to be permanent, full-time work for
long term employees. It is, generally speaking, a stepping stone into
the job market. Paying those workers a "living" wage would both drive
up the cost of fast food restaurant chow but would effectively drive
many of those jobs out of the market. There are already pretty
effective robot burger flippers that can be purchased and maintained for
roughly the cost of one full-time employee.

I like a What-a-burger. Now I'm on the post holiday diet.
