THE RACE FOR THE HEAD OF THE RNC MIGHT GET INTERESTING

There will be a secret vote this coming Friday to elect the head of the Republican National Committee.  It is likely to be energetic.

The current Committee Chair, Ronna McDaniel, is running for the gig again.  She has been accused of religious bigotry, profligate spending and has been (allegedly) telling the membership she can manage Trump.  She has, again allegedly, told committee members that only she can persuade to NOT launch an independent run if the loses the nomination.  McDaniel says NOT SO.

Harmeet Dhillon, formerly one of Donald Trump's lawyers, is also in the running.  She is a regular on various FOX NEWS programs.  

Also in the mix is Mike Lindell, the MyPillow guy.  He is a strongly pro-Trump conspiracy believer and has enough support that he is actually on the ballot.  Trump has not endorsed any of them, but is said to be privately supporting McDaniel.  He put her into her gig shortly after his 2016 win.  She is a niece of Mitt Romney and is not a newcomer to national politics, but she is getting much of the blame for some of the problems that seem to plague the RNC, including a lackluster midterm election and the support of a lot of candidates that turned out to be losers.

Harmeet Dhillon has voiced the assertion that most of the party, represented by 168 people who will vote for the Committee Chair, want a change.  One would expect the not-incumbent to say that.

Clearly the Republicans have every chance of blowing it in 2024.  Their chance of NOT doing that will be better if the party can unite.  With a bit of luck that will be demonstrated this coming Friday.
