Hamas Roar Turns to Whimper as Israeli Jets Pound Gaza Terrorists

Meanwhile the international community is playing its broken record of ignoring Palestinian instigation and blaming Israel for the escalation.

Israel Air Force jets hit terrorist installations in the Gaza Strip early Friday morning, including a rocket-making workshop that the terrorists purposely situated amidst residential buildings and a stone’s throw from a United Nations facility.

The Israeli airstrikes came in response to Gaza-based terrorists firing at least three rockets at southern Israel during the predawn hours. One was intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system, one landed in an open area and the third failed to cross the Gaza border.

That rocket fire was the apparent severe revenge Hamas and its Islamic Jihad allies vowed to take on Israel following a deadly gun battle in northern Samaria a day earlier.

At least nine Palestinians, nearly all of them armed terrorists, were killed on Thursday while engaging Israeli soldiers sent into Jenin to arrest a local Islamic Jihad commander who was planning an imminent attack.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad threatened to hit back hard against Israel, and the IDF went on heightened alert.

While it is unlikely the terrorists will take any drastic action over the weekend with the entire world now watching (see below), Israel remains on its toes just in case.

Predictable double standard

It’s a broken record at this point.

1. The Palestinians attack or plan a major attack that Israel finds out about.
2. Israel responds, either with retaliatory action or by arresting those behind the planned attack.
3. The Palestinians violently resist the Israeli response, leading to many of their deaths.
4. The world blames Israel for the whole thing.

Despite the defensive nature of the Jenin operation, and the fact it was necessitated by ongoing Palestinian incitement and terrorism, the international community predictably took Israel to task for what it called a “dangerous escalation.”

The United Arab Emirates, China and France called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the Jenin raid and its aftermath. They were to be addressed by UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland, who had earlier made his feelings on who is to blame rather clear: “I am deeply alarmed and saddened by the continuing cycle of violence in the occupied West Bank. The deaths today of nine Palestinians, including militants and one woman, during an Israeli arrest operation in Jenin is another stark example.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did his best to get Israel’s voice heard before the UN kangaroo court convened. He stressed that while Israel doesn’t want an escalation, it will continue to do whatever is necessary to protect Israeli lives. And that includes entering Palestinian cities and combatting terrorists who the Palestinian Authority, in violation of its signed agreements, refuses to arrest.
