P.D. ELIMINATING FIRST WATCH

 By Bob Walsh

Greendfield is the county seat of Franklin County, Massachusetts.  It has a population of about 18,000.  And it is shutting down it's first watch (2300-0700) shift due to staff shortages.

Chief Robert Haigh made the announcement at a recent city council meeting.  The staff is down to 28 officers from 34 officers.  Their budget was cut 10% last year.  They recently got a grant of $375,000 spread over three years to hire staff, which will get them three officers.  They wanted eight.

The city 911 call center will remain up and will dispatch the fire department or refer calls to the state police as needed.

I didn't vote for a senile, clueless doofus. But I got one anyway.
