Regular
readers will remember I wrote recently about a legislative proposal in
the formerly great state of California to legally outlaw discrimination
based on "Caste" within the state. I expressed curiosity that this was
even an issue.
Well,
apparently State Senator Wahab has so irritated some of the people
within the 17th District with her proposal of SB 403 that a maybe
serious recall attempt has been launched against her. A LOT of those in
opposition are members of the significant bay area Hindu community. One
of the principle opposition members is a former congressional candidate
Ritesh Tandon. He is an engineer in the south bay and has never
identified with any caste either in India or here.
Wahab
is the first Afghan-American woman elected to public office in the U.
S. and has cited several alleged instances of caste discrimination
within the formerly great state of California.
Tandon asserts that the recall is not even primarily about SB 403 but is due to voter dissatisfaction and her job failure.
Wahab's
supporters are the usual suspects. Radical pro-choice psychopaths,
unions, and various left wing party hacks. This is a significant power
base within California.
