California governor Gavin Newsom 's proposed new budget would slash funding for the police as the state struggles with a massive deficit of at least $45 billion
Gavin (God I Want To Be President) Newsom, the governor
of the formerly great state of California, has as problem. He tells
stupid lies.
He is facing a
huge budget deficit. He says it is a paltry $27 billion. The
Legislative Analysts Office, which is a more-or-less non-partisan
operation, says it is at least twice that. The legislature has 8 days
to get their shit together on the budget before they start losing their
pay over their inaction.
Newsom
has said, on the record, that there would be NO cuts to law enforcement
and public safety. He was, as usual, lying his ass off.
The
current proposal, which is NOT finalized, would hack $10 billion from
the DOJ law enforcement division and $80 billion from the prison
system. It would also chop $97 billion from court operations.
The state does though have enough money for $1.7 billion for equity related climate goals. Whatever the fuck those are.
