Fresh off his inauguration appearance and a much-talked-about trip to Mar-a-Lago earlier in the month, Fetterman first set out on explaining why he hasn’t been surprised by Trump’s acts since taking office
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman shamed the women of The View into silence on Monday by refusing to join in their anti-Trump vitriol.
Fresh off his inauguration appearance and a much-talked-about trip to Mar-a-Lago earlier in the month, Fetterman left the women lost for words with his sensible response to Trump's busy first week in office.
'He’s been doing essentially what he actually campaigned on.
'There's things I'm going to agree with, and things I'm going to disagree with.
'But I'm in the business of finding wins for Pennsylvania and for the nation and engaging the president,' the Pennsylvania Senator said.
The only applause he received from the panel was from Alyssa Farah Griffin, the most conservative voice on the show, who offered: 'Well said.'
The View on ABC hosted Pennsylvania senator John Fetterman on Monday
Fetterman was taken to task by almost all of the hosts on separate issues. Sunny Hostin accused him of turning his back on Democrats
Fetterman didn't stop there.
He shocked Sunny Hostin by calling the prosecution of Trump in New York 'unjust', and left the whole panel visibly irritated with his defense of going to Mar-a-Lago.
'The trial in this city, in New York, was politically motivated.
'That wouldn’t otherwise have been prosecuted if it was someone else.'
Hostin, an attorney who for years worked for CNN as a legal analyst, quickly honed in on what Fetterman had just said about Trump’s trial.
'Just for clarification: Did you mean that the 34-count case in which Donald Trump was found guilty of various financial crimes was politically motivated here in New York?' she snarked.
Fetterman, two years removed from his victory over Republican TV personality Dr. Mehmet Oz, stayed strong, again calling the case that began when a Manhattan grand jury elected to charge Trump criminally in 2023 'inappropriate'.
'Whether that’s a Democrat going after a Republican or a Republican going after a Democrat...I like to think I call it strikes and balls because the judicial system has to remain impartial. That’s really the cornerstone of our society.
'The judicial system [cannot be] weaponized [and target] political enemies for political gain.'
Whoopi Goldberg was shocked by Fetterman's claims that Trump's New York trial was unjust
The hosts were shocked by Fetterman's placidity towards Trump
Hostin, an attorney who for years worked for CNN as a legal analyst, was briefly left at a loss when Fetterman told her the prosecution of Trump in New York had been 'unjust'
At this point, Goldberg weighed in to indicate her disapproval, condescendingly comparing Fetterman's comments with reality.
'Wouldn’t that be great if that’s actually the way that things worked?' she asked.
He didn't take her bait, instead continuing to discuss his meeting with Trump.
'I think overall, it was a positive experience. I mean, he was cordial.
'It wasn’t in any kind of theater. It wasn’t trying to get your picture taken to kind of put something out on social media. It was just really a conversation.
'I actually spoke [with him] for over an hour,' he said, revealing talks between the two that surrounding immigration and agriculture.
'Overall, it was just a straight-up conversation. I just have a rule: I’m going to engage and have a conversation that’s anyone playing it straight, and that’s that’s be doing my job.'
