Gavin Newsom is working on next years budget for the
formerly great state of California. Notably ABSENT from his admittedly
tentative proposal is any funding to support Proposition 36, passed in
November by the voters by a vote of about 3-1. Newsom hates it, and has
said so. So I guess he will just refuse to provide funding to
implement it. CA has a line-item veto so he can easily do that even if
the legislature actually votes to fund it.
It
should be remembered that he came into office with a $100 billion
surplus and a healthy rainy-day fund. We are looking at a $60 billion
deficit and pretty much zero in the rainy-day fund, but lots of money to
fund programs for illegal aliens, homeless and to work to get criminals
out of prison.
Gavin also
just announced a new podcast that he will be operating. Strangely all
of the subjects mentioned in his slick announcement were national
issues, not one had anything specifically to do with major issues
focused within California. Clearly he wants desperately to be President
and is equally desperate to shift the narrative AWAY from California.
