Stephen Eric Scantlebury, 33,
was an involuntary admission to a HCA hospital facility in Loxahatchee,
Florida. He was on what is often described as a 5150 hold.
An
unnamed nurse entered his room and he attacked her, literally beating
her face in. She is likely to be completely blind. Scantlebury fled the
hospital dangling medical monitoring equipment as he ran. He was
quickly apprehended after being Tasered.
Scantlebury
is at least allegedly facing charges of attempted murder. I am
guessing it will be hard to make the charges stick due to the nature of
his commitment.
The
Florida Nursing Association is expressing concern over worker safety.
HCA Florida Healthcare issues an essentially meaningless statement of
concern and support.
