On Friday night two officers from Virginia Beach, VA.,
died when a traffic stop turned to shit. Officers Cameron Girvin, 25,
and Christopher Reese, 30, who were on the midnight shift traffic
patrol, stopped a vehicle due to expired tags very close to midnight.
The
stop got physical, and the driver, John Lee McCoy III, 42, is believed
to have pulled a gun from his pocket and shot both officers, and then
shot them both again while they were down. There is both dashcam and
body cam footage of the incident.
These
are the first officers Virginia Beach has lost to gunfire since 2008.
They have lost a total of 17 officers since the department was founded
in 1898. Officer Reese has been with the department for five years,
officer Girvin for four years.
The suspect self-rehabilitated shortly after the murders.
