HPD Captain Daryn Blake Edwards faces additional felony charges for child sex crimes, officials say
HOUSTON, Texas -- Houston Police Department Captain Daryn Blake Edwards is facing two more charges related to child sex crimes, according to authorities.
Shortly after his arrest on Wednesday night, HPD announced that the 59-year-old had been relieved of duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
The League City Police Department said they arrested Edwards at his home in Galveston County on charges of possession of child pornography. He allegedly had the images on his phone.
By Thursday evening, League City police said Edwards was charged with two additional felonies, aggravated sexual assault and sexual performance of a child. He was re-arrested and taken to the Galveston County jail where he is being held with no bond.
Police said the investigation is open and ongoing.
League City PD responded to ABC13 with the following statement.
"The investigation is still ongoing and our investigators will be conducting more interviews to determine if there might be any other potential victims."
According to HPD, Edwards is a 32-year veteran who serves as the captain of the Auto Theft Division.
News of the charges has come as a shock to HPD colleagues who told ABC13 he was well-liked and respected.
Edwards was among several officers who were demoted after the Astroworld tragedy in 2021.
