Several Republican members of congress have formally approached DOGE with a request that they give a very hard look to the California High-Speed Rail Authority.
The whole boondoggle has turned into what is actually a union construction work project with a 300% cost overrun and a significant downgrading of performance objectives. Even though the project has met NONE of it's LEGALLY REQUIRED performance benchmarks the California courts have refused to kill it. Maybe the feds will manage to do it.
The most generous of the current estimates suggest that even if the project moves forward and is fully funded it will not be functional for another ten years.
