A man who may have murdered the head of the Colorado Dept. of Corrections was terminally rehabilitated after a car chase and crash in the great state of Texas.

Evan Spencer Ebel, 28, was driving a Caddy with Colorado plates that matched the general description of a car seen leaving the scene of the murder of Tom Clements. The federal Bureau of Prisons has said the dead man was a parolee and a known member of a white supremacist prison gang.

When a Texas deputy tried to pull Ebel over for a routine traffic stop, Ebel opened fire, wounding the deputy, James Boyd. Ebel then crashed while fleeing south, and chose to shoot it out with the cops. He lost.

Ebel had an extensive criminal history, including assaults on correctional staff while in custody.
