BALLOT STRANGENESS IN SUNNY CALIFORNIA

By Bob Walsh

California's governor wants a mail ballot issued to all state voters, with some in-person voting options. But a judge just issued a restraining order against one of two orders, suggesting Gavin Newsom has overstepped his authority. Photo via iStock

I got my Proposition 50 ballot at the end of last week.  I filled it out promptly.  There was, after all, only one item on the ballot.  Mailed it back in right away.

Yesterday I got an email from BallotTrax, the system used by the Ca Sec State office to track ballots and inform people who signed up (like me) where there ballot was in the process.  That email said that my ballot had been returned by the post office as undeliverable and I should contact the country registrar of voters to find out what the problem was.

I did so at 0800 this morning.

The registrar's office said that the email was sent to a LOT of people in error.  They in fact had my ballot and a lot of other ballots and that processing was going along just fine thank you very much.  They are not completely sure of the source of the email or why it was sent.

And people wonder why Californians have pretty much zero faith in the electoral system.
