Various news reports lately have said that the Trump
administration is asking universities to sign an agreement to support
the Trump education agenda in order to receive federal funding. No huge
surprise there. There are always strings attached to federal money.
Probably more so with Trump federal money.
In response yesterday Gavin Newsom put out this statement.
"If
any California university signs this radical agreement, they'll lose
billions in state funding-including Cal Grants-instantly. California
will not bankroll schools that sell out their students, professors,
researchers and surrender academic freedom." Only he did it in all
caps. Electronic shouting.
This is getting stupid. Or maybe stupider.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Much as I dislike saying it, I believe Gavin Newsom is right in this matter. While I abhor what has been happening to our universities, they should not be subjected to such a threat by a pompous president. If Trump withholds federal funds from universities with a Marxist agenda that's fine, but he should do so without having demanded that they follow his education agenda.
