Earlier this month Joby Aviation, a company that is
working on an electric powered VTOL air taxi, successfully completed a
test flight thru FAA controlled air space between two airports (Montery
and Marina in California).
The
flight covered about 10 nautical miles and 12 minutes, including five
minutes in a holding pattern. The aircraft takes off vertically,
converts to level flight and then vertical landing. The aircraft is
designed for one pilot and four passengers. They plan to begin FAA
pilot flight testing early next year.
The aircraft has six propeller-rotors and is refreshingly quiet.
