On Monday, Joseph Francois Jean, 38, an ex-con, was found guilty of capital murder by a jury in Houston. He had bludgeoned his ex-girlfriend’s 17-year-old daughter Chelsey Lang and her 16-year-old cousin Ashley Johnson to death before setting the ex-girlfriend’s house on fire.
During the upcoming penalty phase, the defense will argue against imposing the death penalty. According to the Houston Chronicle, his attorneys will claim that:
Jean’s life has value.
Jean was born into a poor, dysfunctional family.
Jean earned a GED in prison.
Jean was never in a security threat group or gang while he was in prison.
I was sitting on the pot when I read this. I had to use half a roll of toilet paper to dry the tears streaming down my face. Poor old Joseph Jean - it’s obvious he’s the real victim in this case. Shame on Chelsey and Ashley!
