VALUE OF A TOTALED OUT CAR

If you have the misfortune of being involved in a bad wreck and your insurance company wants to total out your car, how do you know they are going to offer you a fair settlement? The insurance company will offer you the least amount of money possible. Here’s a way to get some information that may enable you to obtain more for your wrecked car that the insurance company offered you.

On Saturdays I often listen to the Car Pro Show on the radio. This past Saturday, someone called in to say he had been in a wreck and his insurance company had totaled out his car. They made him an offer and he wondered if the offer was good enough.

Jerry “The Car Pro” Reynolds advised him to contact AutoTrader.com and describe his car, the mileage at the time of the wreck and any other information the website asks for in order to get an average sales price of cars like his.

Since I had been in my truck when I listened to the show, I couldn’t remember everything Jerry had said by the time I got back home. So I e-mailed him and got this prompt reply...

Then fill out the boxes as you go down the page. You may need go out MORE than 100 miles depending on how many there are out there. I'd try to look though 10 or so similar cars to get your average. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
