An Okie who tried to save a rattle snake from getting run over, dies after being bitten twice while removing the critter from a road
Barry Lester, 57, is a kind-hearted soul, or rather, he was a kind-hearted soul.
Barry, a good old boy, was celebrating his 57th birthday Sunday. He was driving with some relatives in his pickup truck along an Osage County road on the way to Walnut Creek, Oklahoma.
Suddenly he spotted a timber rattlesnake in the middle of the road. Kind-hearted Barry stopped to help the poor critter avoid being run over by removing it from the oad. After all, he had handled snakes on many occasions before.
So, being the kind-hearted soul he is, or rather was, picked the snake up with his left hand behind its head, and started off for the side of the road. But alas, the snake wiggled its head out of Barry’s hand and – ouch, shit – sunk its fangs into the hand. So does Barry drop the critter and head for the nearest hospital pronto? Oh no, Barry just switched hands and the snake – ouch, shit - sunk its fangs into his tight hand.
Barry dropped the ungrateful rattler into an empty tool box in the back of the truck. His relatives rushed him home where an ambulance they had called for was waiting. He was taken to St John Medical Center where his birthday celebration ended abruptly when he croaked.
Doctors told Barry’s widow that the kind-hearted stupid did not survive the snake bites because of a prior existing heart condition.
Oh well, as the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished ….. even on one’s birthday.

Barry Lester must not have been paying attention when President Trump told his snake story.
They ought to put him in for a Darwin award.
