Last year the legislature of the formerly great state of California passed a new fuel tax and increases in the VLF (vehicle license fees). These are MASSIVELY unpopular with the general public. The legislature does not give a rat's ass, they want more and more money so they can continue to fund their pet projects and buy votes for themselves. They are, collectively, a pack of rapacious turds. That's what happens in a one party government.
In any event on Monday an anti-tax group is going to submit what appears to be way more than necessary signatures to get the issue on the state ballot. It is very likely the tax will be repealed if it does n fact get to the ballot.
Many people, myself included, wouldn't react so poorly if we thought the taxes would actually go to where they are supposed to go (fixing the roads) but the rapacious bastards in the legislature get very creative ways to divert the money to funding of lawyers for illegal aliens, studying the sex life of bowling balls and outreach programs for LBGTQ four-year olds.
