Former Dallas P D Sergeant Amber Guyger was found guilty of murder in the death of her neighbor last year. The jury rejected a possible manslaughter verdict. She could get up to 99 years in the slammer.
I admit I have trouble with this one. Manslaughter, no problem. There is zero reason to believe she had any ill will towards her neighbor or that the shooting was anything other than what it appeared to be, a colossal fuck-up. I think the Black-White thing overpowered the issue (my opinion, for what that may be worth to you).
EDITOR'S NOTE: I think you're right about the Black-White thing. Manslaughter seems more applicable than murder. But here is what one police-hating anonymous asshole said about us on Scott Henson's Grits for Breakfast:
"I'm sure Bark and his less than intelligent buddy Bob are crying in their beers over the Amber Guyger verdict. Like I said in a previous post..the times are changing and the crooked cop era is coming to an end."

There are a lot of loud, offensive assholes who hide under the "anonymous" handle because they don't have the guts to sign their work. There was never any suggestion that Sgt. Guyger was a crooked cop. Not even that she was a bad cop. She did, however, commit one colossal fuck-up for which she is paying what the jury says is the appropriate price. I wasn't there, I didn't follow the trial closely, but I admit I think that manslaughter would be a much more appropriate verdict than murder for these circumstances.
She will appeal and win in a year or two. This was a clear case of manslaughter or negligent homicide, but not murder. Hope all those social justice warriors are happy.
Many of the police-hating assholes who comment on Grits for Breakfast sound like they escaped from the loony bin.
And Scott Henson never refutes their outrageous comments. He only responds to readers who contradict him. That proves Henson is a police-hater too You're either with the police haters or against them.

The jury gave her 10 years, which at the end of the day is basically a manslaughter sentence.
Seems to me to be a fair and just sentence.
