It seems that there is a more or less serious attempt under way for a large chunk of eastern Oregon and a small chunk of north-east California to leave and join up with Idaho. Since this would not create any new senate seats like a new state would, and would only result in a modest, if any, shuffling in the house, it just might pass (though probably not). It would take the U. S. government, the state governments involved, and the local voters and land owners to accomplish this goal.
The proponents say it is not a political move, but a values and life-style focused proposal. You never know, it is possible the denizens of western Oregon would be happy to see their conservative-rural neighbors move elsewhere, figuratively if not literally.

Just move.
When my dad's old house is sold I will look REAL HARD at that. I will miss the weather in CA, but not the bullshit.
Don't go to Idaho, Bob, come to Texas instead. Except for Austin, Texas is very gun friendly. And the weather is not bad either ... that is except for occasional tornadoes and hurricanes. But then we do not worry about earthquakes. Also housing is affordable in most parts of the state. So come on down Bob!
I admit it is worth considering, as is the high desert of Arizona. Nice thing about Idaho though, my great great great whatever grandfather had 44 children so I am related to pretty much everybody in Idaho, Montana and Utah. They even named a college after him (though it is now B Y U Idaho).
