Anne Kirkpatrick was formerly the chief of the Oakland, CA. police department. She was sacked last month with zero notice and no reason given, by an action of their civilian review commission (with the concurrance of the mayor).
He cause of action is retaliation. She is asserting that she was really canned because she made complaints about the police commission.
In accordance with California law the city has 45 days to respond to her claim. Assuming they say BUGGER OFF she is then free to file an actual lawsuit.
Chief Kirkpatrick filed at least seven reports with the city attorney citing inappropriate and even illegal conduct by the police commission. The commissioners have badges but are not cops. They don't always act like they know that, and have engaged in what could only be described as highly questionable conduct from time to time and then try to badge their way out.
