REALITY, WISHFUL THINKING OR JUST ANOTHER BRAND OF BULLSHIT?

by Bob Walsh

I happened to watch a bit of Sean Hannity Friday, something I do not usually do. Dude is wound a little too tight for me. He did, however, ASSURE his listeners that a couple of more major bombshells are about to burst concerning the Trump Russia hoax, the Flynn frame-up and the Durham investigation.

Unfortunately this may be kind of like Adam Schitt-For-Brains screaming, "Trump is guilty. Really. Really and truly. We have the evidence. I have the evidence. I have seen the evidence. Really. We've got him," for three years and there being nothing there. Less than nothing in fact.

Hope clouds reason. If you want something to be true the natural tendency of confirmation bias will be that you believe everybody who tells you it is true. I grant you that Hannity probably does have some good sources. His mindset would appeal to a lot of rank-and-file good guys, while not so much to the empty suit brigade. Plus he could be getting some semi-official leaks from the Trump team.

When I see indictments and people dragged away in handcuffs I will believe it. Until then I will be hopeful, but not expectant.

Hannity is not my favorite Fox personality. However, He really likes himself. I practiced and instructed interview and interrogation during my career. I have found that Fox News uses the classic good guy, bad guy interview style relentlessly. This is especially true when the planted bad guy (Liberal) is brought on to speak on a topic. The Host along with a good guy (conservative) exchange banter with the bad guy. It is designed to belittle said bad guy through heated exchange while the Host controls the microphones and the split screen.

It is entertaining. Fair and Balanced? Eh. Maybe not so much.

I watch it for the same reason I enjoy Old Western Movies. The good guys usually win. I like that.
