Juvenile court judge charged with child porn possession

A juvenile court judge in Wisconsin has been suspended without pay after being charged with seven counts of possession of child pornography, court officials said.

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Brett Blomme, 38, was charged Wednesday following the execution of search warrants in his chambers, his car and residences in Milwaukee and Dane counties, the Wisconsin Department of Justice announced.

A criminal complaint indicates investigators began probing Blomme in February upon getting a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children showing a user on the Kik messaging app named “DomMasterbb” uploaded child porn images and videos 27 times in October and November.

The alleged uploads took place from a home Blomme and his husband own in Cottage Grove, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The couple have two adopted children, but court records don’t indicate they were included in any of the six videos and one image showing kids being sexually abused, the newspaper reported.

Blomme’s defense attorney said Wednesday during his initial court appearance that Child Protective Services was working on the adopted children’s current placement.

A judge released Blomme on a signature bond and set his preliminary hearing for April 29. He was also ordered to not use social media or have unsupervised contact with children, excluding his own, the newspaper reported.

If convicted, Blomme, who was arrested Tuesday, faces a three-year minimum prison sentence for each count and a maximum of 25 years.

The state Supreme Court announced later Wednesday that Blomme was being suspended from the bench without pay, citing its “superintending and administrative authority” over courtrooms throughout the state.

Blomme was most recently assigned as a judge in Milwaukee County Children’s Court in Wauwatosa in August, the Journal Sentinel reported.

Blomme’s attorney, Chris Van Wagner, did not return a message seeking comment Wednesday, the Associated Press reported.

The charges against Blomme, who was elected to the circuit court in 2020, came as a shock to Milwaukee’s mayor.

“The allegations are alarming,” Mayor Tom Barrett told WISN. “Before he was elected to the bench, the judge served as chair of the Board of Zoning Appeals, an appointed board in city government. The reports of the arrest came as a complete surprise.”
