The
federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has just ruled that independent
truck drivers are covered by the anti-gig economy law in California.
That means that they must be considered to be employees for many
purposes, including setting wages and benefits. As you might expect the
Teamster's Union was thrilled to death as they think (probably
correctly) that this will force thousands of them into mandatory union
membership along with increasing their pay and benefits.
