INSTEAD OF BEING THE MICHAEL JORDAN OF POLICE CHIEFS, ART ACEVEDO IS MORE LIKE COLIN KAEPERNICK - ALL BLUSTER, NO TALENT

Disgraced former Miami chief disgraces himself more by joining CNN as contributor

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo responds to demonstrators about police accountability at a rally for George Floyd at Housto…

ATLANTA, GA- Why is it the absolute worst of people keep landing on their feet? We’ve seen that a number of times, usually with disgraced politicians somehow ending up ducking responsibility for their actions.

The late mayor of Washington, DC Marion Barry comes to mind. So does Bill Clinton.

Now, we’re seeing two former police officers, former DC Metro cop Michael Fanone and former Houston and Miami police chief Art Acevedo ending up as contributors on the Siberia of cable news channels, CNN.

We recently reported on Fanone, who parlayed the “Great ‘Insurrection’ of 2021” into a gig on the world’s Fakest Name in News. Fanone, who looks more like a former member of a street gang than a former cop gave CNN and leftists in Congress what they wanted last year—red meat on former President Donald Trump and his supporters.

Now we have Acevedo, the disgraced former police chief in Miami who lasted a whole six months there which is probably six months longer than he should have been, given his history in Houston and Austin, Texas.

Acevedo has long fancied himself as the “voice of reason” in law enforcement, an anti-gun zealot who relishes in attempting to smack down the NRA while sucking up to far-left gun control groups such as Moms Demand Action, Everytown USA and others.

Now he too finds himself on CNN.

Acevedo’s tenure in Miami was, to say the least, eventful. One of the first actions he took to build rapport with officers under his command was to fire two of his command staff under questionable circumstances, while demoting a number of others.

Law Enforcement Today has written a number of articles about Acevedo because as advocates for police officers, street cops in particular, we can pick out a phony bureaucrat when we see one. And Acevedo is a phony bureaucrat.

When Acevedo was hired away from Houston, Miami’s mayor Francis Suarez called him the “Michael Jordan” of police chiefs. However as we observed, Acevedo is more like Colin Kaepernick…all bluster, no talent.

In April, Acevedo fired Deputy Chief Ronald Papier and his wife, Commander Nerly Papier relative to a crash involving Nerly Papier where she struck a curb with her police vehicle in downtown Miami.

Both tires were punctured and the rims were damaged. There were no injuries, and the vehicle was towed to the motor pool for repairs.

Both officers were fired, although it is unclear why Deputy Chief Papier was fired, but it was apparently related to not recusing himself from an IA investigation.

Meanwhile three majors who were demoted by Acevedo have had their prior ranks restored. Those three officers—Jose Fernandez, demoted to captain, Keandra Simmons, also demoted to captain, and Richard Perez, who got busted to lieutenant are all being reinstated to their former ranks by interim Miami police chief Manny Morales.

Acevedo also endeared himself to officers under his command when he threatened to fire any officers who refused to subject themselves to the coronavirus vaccine.

Last summer, he suspended a highly-decorated officer for flashing the “OK” signal, which some lunatics equate as a symbol of white supremacy, a signal by the way which is routinely flashed by black NBA players every time they hit a 3-point play. In fact, Acevedo himself flashed the “OK sign, as we noted, during a Black Lives Matter protest in 2020.

In the ultimate irony, last fall Acevedo himself was accused of leaving the scene of an accident, where he failed to report damage to his city-owned vehicle, an offense which he fired Commander Papier for. Rules for thee, not for me…that’s how it worked in Acevedo-land.

The straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back, however, came when Acevedo—clearly unaware of the city in which he was employed—claimed the police department was run by “the Cuban Mafia.”

As we noted, Acevedo…like Joe Biden…was a one-man pandemic.

The final nail in the coffin came when Acevedo authored an eight-page unhinged diatribe where city commissioners say Acevedo threatened them. For more on the adventures of Ace Art Acevedo, read below.

So now Acevedo finds himself working for “The Most Busted Name in News,” CNN, the Clown News Network. He should fit right in.

When Acevedo was booted from Miami after his short tenure, he warned us he was “not a quitter.” We should have taken that as a warning. He told NBC News:

“I don’t plan on quitting on being a voice for this profession and being a voice for the good police officers in this country,” he said.

What he should have said is he plans on being a voice for himself, because that’s what self-important narcissists do.

Acevedo’s first appearance on CNN was with Wolf Blitzed, er Blitzer on “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” where he discussed gun violence in the country.

Acevedo, a gun-control zealot who has butted heads with gun rights group such as the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, told Blitzer that bipartisanship is needed to reduce the homicide rate in US cities.

“Both sides need to come to the middle on gun policy and on violent criminals and bail policy. Or else, we are not going to see this get better anytime soon.”

Unfortunately for people who believe in the Second Amendment, the “middle ground” for Acevedo on gun control is probably outright confiscation. He’s that radical.

Acevedo may be an ignoramus, but he’s not stupid. Clearly the CNN gig is being done to raise his national profile (probably looking for a job in the Biden administration where he’d fit right in) and to repair his self-inflicted damaged reputation.

The only issue is he’s appearing on CNN, which typically finishes behind shows such as Bluey on Disney Channel, reruns of The Golden Girls, Paw Patrol on Nick, and reruns of Man vs. Food. In other words, if he’s looking to “raise his profile,” he picked the wrong place to do it.

Here’s hoping he fails miserably. Nobody deserves it more.

He should have applied for a spot on The View. This will probably be his last stop. He wasn't a good administrator. When you fire command staff you also piss off their Rabbi's.
Only a moron would show up in Miami and call Cubans names.

I guess CNN has zero standards. No big surprise there.

I had a friend that I started my career with. He became a Chief of Police and then began the small-town Chief of Police circuit. Maybe he would last a couple of years at each town. Pretty soon he ended up unemployed, divorced and became a security guard. He was a nice guy as far as nice guys go. You cannot go to work as a Chief of Police or City Manager and expect to last. Between the City Council, Mayor and influential folks any decision you make will be criticized. In most cases you will be terminated based on the action of an employee. Chiefs of Police and City Managers are not Civil Service.
